What To Do Before Stepping Out Into The Sun

Wrinkles, sagging skin and age spots. They sound depressing, but we will all have to deal with the signs of aging eventually.

Constant exposure to the sun speeds up the aging process but don’t wail just yet as there are a number of things you can do to reduce the effects of sun on your skin.

1 Hour Before Stepping Out Into The Sun

Choose the right type of clothing. Clothes made from tightly woven fabric are the best for sun protection. And though you may groan at this, darker clothes provide more protection than lighter ones. To minimize the effects of humidity, go for materials made from 100% cotton.

20 Minutes Before Stepping Out Into The Sun

Sunscreen, sunscreen! Most of us tend to disregard this must have item. Apply sunscreen or sunblock on all exposed parts of your body 20 minutes before you step into the sun. That includes your lips and ears!

If you are going swimming, make sure the sunscreen you are using is waterproof, and re-apply it immediately after you’re done.

2 Hours After Stepping Out Into The Sun

Contrary to what many think, one application is not nearly enough. Re-apply your sunscreen every two hours, especially if you are constantly out in the sun.

Just Before You Leave

Don’t even think of stepping out of the door without these items:

* A broad-brimmed hat (especially if you are going for an outdoor excursion)

* Sunglasses with UV protection (invest in a good quality pair)

* An umbrella (it’s not just for rainy days)

Nutrition Matters

Studies have shown that certain nutrients help prevent photo-aging. Be lavish with fruits and vegetables as they contain antioxidants which are known to be good skin nutrition!
