Stress Management Tips

Many people are looking for stress management techniques to let go of stress and be healthier and happier. If you can let go of stress, you can enjoy life more and reduce your risk of heart disease and other illnesses. The following are three stress management tips that are simple to apply and very effective.

One effective way to manage stress is to discuss your feelings with a trusted confidant. Usually your closest friend can be a great starting point unless of course they are where your stress begins then you'll want to find someone else. It may also be helpful to participate in support groups or religious activities that are in line with your beliefs. No matter where you live, there are groups that can make you feel more connected to others and help you deal with stressful situations. It's not a good idea to isolate yourself, let those feelings flow don't bottle them up. Supportive people willing to listen can be one of the most satisfying stress relievers.

Diet is also important in stress management. Emotions can be affected by chemistry in your body which is how we know the affects of what we eat and how they make us feel. Adding too much sugar or stimulants as well as depressants such as sugar, alcohol and caffeine can cause your stress levels to soar when you least expect them to. Don't let these interfere with your sleep since this too is a cause of stress. Eat breakfast everyday to get your day off to a good start. Spikes in your blood sugar are known to cause increases stress levels, avoid these by reducing the amount of junk in your diet.

If you've forgotten how to laugh, you should relearn this skill, as it's a great way to reduce stress. People with high levels of stress tend to be serious almost all the time, and if this is you, it's essential to learn to let go and have a good laugh every so often. If you or the people you're usually around tend to be humor challenged, try to spend time with people with a better sense of humor. Seek out entertainment that makes you laugh, whether TV shows, funny movies or comedians. You can find humorous websites, online videos or even free services that will send you jokes every day. No matter how busy you are or how serious your job or responsibilities may be, you should always find some time to laugh every day. As the famous saying goes, laughter is the best medicine, and stress is one of the ills it can cure.

We have only hit the tip of the ice berg where stress management is concerned but it's a good place to start. What causes your stress can be as important as treating it so you need to know what that is. In many cases you can't control or change your circumstances but you can always find a better way to deal with what is happening around you.
